About ScamShield

Our Mission

ScamShield is South Africa's first real-time fraud risk engine designed for everyday people. We combine signals from website scanners, phone reputation services, bank verification, breach databases, and community-reported scam intelligence into a single, easy-to-understand risk score.

What We Are NOT

  • We are NOT a people lookup tool or identity exposure service
  • We do NOT reveal bank account owners, cellphone owners, or ID data
  • We do NOT guarantee that any party is safe or fraudulent

ScamShield is an advisory tool that provides risk indicators to help you make safer decisions. All checks are performed through lawful, regulated, and consented channels.

How It Works

When you submit a check, ScamShield queries multiple verification sources in parallel:

  • Website checks: Google Safe Browsing, VirusTotal, urlscan.io, WHOIS/domain age
  • Phone checks: Truecaller reputation, SA CRDB portability data, community reports
  • Bank checks: BankservAfrica AVS name-match verification (does the name match — not who owns the account)
  • Email checks: Have I Been Pwned breach data, domain age analysis

These signals are weighted by our risk engine to produce a 0–100 score with a clear traffic-light rating: Safe, Suspicious, High Risk, or Critical.

Legal & Privacy

ScamShield is fully compliant with POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act), the ECT Act, and the Consumer Protection Act. We collect only the minimum data needed to perform checks, and all personal information is encrypted at rest and in transit.
